Spicy Moscow Mule

This Moscow Mule has real kick.

We love the pairing of flavor-packed ginger beer with the big fruity heat of habanero pepper in this spicy Moscow Mule recipe. Make no mistake – the habanero here, when muddled, packs a punch. But it’s the kind of spiciness you need to make an impact on an already “big flavor” cocktail. Plus we love the hint of fruitiness that habanero brings with it too. It pairs nicely with ginger.

Want it extra spicy? Muddle two habanero wheels instead of one. Want your Moscow Mule with less kick? Opt for jalapeño pepper instead. It doesn’t supply that touch of fruitiness, but the heat level is nowhere near that of the extra hot habanero.

Be sure to take care when handling habanero peppers. Use gloves, especially when cutting and seeding. Habaneros can provide a wicked case of chili burn if handled improperly, so know your options for stopping the fire before you handle them.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 habanero seeded and sliced into wheels
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • Ginger beer

Instructions

  • Place one habanero wheel in a copper mug and muddle the habanero to release the oils.
  • Add ice, then pour in the vodka and lime juice.
  • Top with ginger beer, then stir well and serve.

Notes

Habanero peppers too spicy? Use jalapeño peppers instead. They don't have the same fruitiness that we love paired with the ginger beer, but jalapeños are also much lower on the pepper scale in terms of heat.
