Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon jalapeño pepper chopped, or 3 to 4 jalapeño rings
  • 1 tablespoon cucumber chopped
  • 5 ounces vodka
  • 2 ounces soda water
  • 1 ounce cucumber syrup homemade, see notes
  • Cucumber slices as garnish
  • Jalapeño rings as garnish

Instructions

  • Place the jalapeño and cucumber in the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle them well.
  • Fill the shaker with ice, then pour in the cucumber syrup and vodka.
  • Shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold.
  • Strain into two chilled martini glasses, using a fine-mesh strainer to catch the jalapeño bits, then top each glass with 1 ounce of soda water.
  • Garnish with cucumber slices or jalapeño rings and serve.

Notes

Cucumber syrup: Blend 1/2 cup chopped cucumber with 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water until the sugar dissolves, then strain. Keep it in the fridge and use it within a few days.
Want more heat? Leave the seeds and white ribs in the jalapeño, or use a serrano.
