Want your taco salsa slightly spicier? You can sub in two diced serrano peppers for the jalapeño pepper (or add one on top of the jalapeño). Serranos are typically twice the heat of jalapeños (10,000 to 23,000 Scoville heat units compared to 2,500 to 8,000 of a jalapeño). Plus their flavor profile (bright, grassy when green) is close enough to the jalapeño to be an excellent “up the scale” substitute.

Taco Salsa
Ingredients
- 1 jalapeño pepper diced
- 2 cups tomatoes seeds removed and chopped (approximately 6 medium-sized tomatoes)
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1/2 white onion chopped
- 1 cup cilantro leaves chopped (approximately one bunch)
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Simply mix the ingredients together and refrigerate.
